You find the path just outside of town. It meanders lazily on its way through towering groves and pleasant clearings filled with wildflowers. You almost forget why you are heading down this path when the sound of water reaches your ears. you round a bend and the river Tear comes into sight. It is a sizeable river of brown flowing water. To your left looms the Mill house. Originally set in a small bend in the river it apears that the river has slowly changed course over the years and now the Mill House sits on an island amidst the river. The path leads straight into the river and 2 posts are anchored in the bank. A small ferry lazily drifts in the river tied to one of the posts.

*Sirellus takes some of the wildflowers for later study. Once the millhouse comes into view, Sirellus will use Complex Geometric Estimation to determine the best way to approach the ferry without coming into direct line of sight of the millhouse, percentage chance is 45%+5%(Opportunist)+1%(High Honor)[dice=100].* Cyrrin, does your training involve any sort of tracking skills that would enable you to determine if the Gnolls have come through this area to utilize the ferry?[rand=66972014078206952468539695280984665537035808481517001562428335227]

A fine idea Sirellus! So how about it Cyrrin, can you help us out?

I will see what I can do. Please be patient. *Cyrrin examines the map and studies the local surrounding.* As far as knowing if they had passed through, I would not know.

I apologize but I am unfamiliar with the surrounding locale. However, probably the best avenue of entry would be a direction that is downwind of the dogs. Aside from that suggestion, I would 'commandeer' the ferry, move it out of sight of the millhouse, and observe the canines course of action.

*Ermac looks at the bank of the island from where he stands* Is there not a ferry on the island? If the only ferry is on this side, then perhaps the some of the dogs are not at home, unless they swim to and from the millhouse.

From your vantage point there is no ferry visible on the small island.

Perhap the pups doggie-paddle?*chuckles* Seriously though, perhaps the most prudent course of action would be to find a secure spot and observe the cunning canines' habits. If we are able to surmise their method of traversing the river, that might give us the key to their ultimate downfall. We might be able to ambush them while they are in mid-stroke.

*shrugs* That is fine with me. Lets go grab the raft and find a spot to hide. You lead the way though, I don't know much about finding good spots to hide and spy from.

Very well, I will see what I can do. Let's hope to catch them asleep. Remember, it is best to let sleeping dogs die. *Chuckles* (Here goes nothing.) *Cyrrin cautiously approach the ferry and senseing there is no immediate danger (Astute observation) unties the ferry from the post. Paying as much rope as is necessary and letting the course of the river do the dirty work, Needles guides the boat down the river until he is at a location that he perceives as both secure and unobserved, preferably among the reeds of an eddy (or whatever that place is that spies usually spy from, I don't know what it is called). There he waits and observes until further notice.* I'm no ranger. I'm not a ranger. Why, oh why can't they understand this basic concept. Oh well, I guess they have no choice. Neither do I. *Mental laugh*

As Cyrrin's trembling hand reaches for the rope tying the ferry a loud baying echoes through the woods. Two Gnolls fling themselves from the woods on the opposite bank near the Mill House running full tilt on all fours. They leap into the water as a hulking green figure bursts through the tree line. Easily the size of 4 men and lets out a tooth grinding roar. The Gnolls can be heard laughing from the water as they swim across to the Mill.

*Needles stands for a second, , then runs back to the party.* Well, I think we can rule out that they use the ferry!

Drul Whispers, um, are the gnolls causing the problem with the farmers, or is the big green thing? Or are we supposed to take them all out? Maybe we can talk to the green thing and ferry it across the river to do the job for us...

A interesting concept to say nonetheless. But whom among us would have the best chance of getting the message across. *Looks from Sirellus to the monstrous hulk.*

I assure you, just because I believe that this certain color possesses certain qualities to enhance probability, doesn't mean I know how to communicate with every green hulking beast that lumbers out of the forest. Whatever that thing is, the gnolls are afraid of it. I think we should try to avoid it as well until we have more information about it. *Sirellus motions to the ferry* Perhaps we should take advantage of the gnolls' distraction and approach the island now.
