40K is a foul british mistress. I have been addicted to their little over priced miniatures for 12 years now. First there was my Chaos Army, Then Eldar, Then Necrons, Then Tyranids, and now Space Marines. The Space Marines are the only ones I have left. The only collection I regret selling was my Chaos Army as it was fantasticly fun to convert up everything. I love doing conversions and customs, it's hard to come up with ideas for space marines though since there plain anyway and they already have a ton of extra little bits available anyway. I did manage to convert some regular helmets into Beaky helmets and magentize 3 dreadnoughts and 1 predator. My working color scheme for my dudes is this Chapter Icon is this I am calling them the void reavers and have some lame background fluff already done up for them. THE PAIN Still haven't painted anything up really. every time I sit down to paint I end up doing a terrible job of it like this dude pictured above. Curses foiled again! This thread is for me to post progress on my space marines and for people to yell at me for not painting.

Yeah, I never paint either. Mostly cause I suck at it. Sad thing is that I don't even have the desire to get better at painting. I love putting the models together and playing the game. And things do look better painted. But do you know how many games I could play instead of painting?

There are a couple easy tricks for painting if you just want a cohesive army.
If you can turn out base colors on dudes pretty quick you can use a polyurethane wood stain to dip them in and make it look like you did a bunch of work shading. it looks terrible on white as you can see above though.

Finally picked up some more primer today and primed more of my dudes. I also picked up a prettier purple from the P3 Privateer press paint line and grabbed their armor wash to see how it looks. I'm curious about how their paint handles.

Hya is my custom carrying cases. Cost me all of about 12 bucks each to make. They can hold 3 'trays' I cut down to size. Each tray can fit about 24 marines, 10 terminators or about 2 tanks depending on how I cut them out. It's rough but it works and looks spiffy. Didn't take all that much time either. I will probably need to make a 3rd one eventually however and then transporting it easily becomes a slight issue.

I just nabbed a bunch of extra arms/guns/backpacks for Rogue Trader Era Plastic beakies like the one I have above. Now I can finally fix up the bunch of broken ones I got a while ago weee.

Actually sat down and started painting last night. Man it has been so long since I've painted anything that it's taking me forever to get back in the swing. Very discouraging. I got 1 extra layer of white over my primer and 2 or 3 coats of my secondary color slapped on.

Actually, Boogs, I kinda like the stain-on-white look on that marine. His armor looks dirty, like he's been slogging though the mud for two weeks killing things. It's a cool realistic, gritty look.

Almost done assembling my landraider. Just waiting for the magnets on the doors and sponsons to dry and for my lascannon sponsons to arrive in the mail so I can go between crusader and normal land raider. I was slightly disappointed with this kit though. The way the sides fit onto the body doesn't leave enough room for the top so the front bay doors don't sit flush. I ended up busting the thing apart several times just trying to get the top on. I tried shaving down the sides of the top assemble but to no avail. It's not as bad now, but it's still annoying.
Also on a tactical note due to true line of sight why not mount all the guns on the front doors? the regular ones always have the lascannons on the back doors so when you disembark from the sides it blocks the lascannons. There's no rule against mounting them on the front I assume so tactically putting them in the back is annoying. I guess loosing an inch to assault might be why.

The biggest reason would be getting all of your guys within 2" of the front assault door. If you loaded your crusader up with 15 guys, you have to be careful that you maintain unit cohesion if you use the "back" doors for debarking as well. Make sense?
